The problem with being a big girl in a heatwave is threefold. Chafing, sweating and swelling. The fattie Trinity. Quite frankly it is a deeply unpleasant experience. I had intended to remove most of my rollage before summer struck to avoid a large proportion of all this squelching but being a devout filler of face in nearly all situations and seasons, I am still sporting a rolling landscape of abdominal fat and excess inner thigh blubber. The result is a constant desire to stand naked in a star shape in front of the fridge but you can imagine where that would lead…..When clothed there are a number of techniques I endeavour to put to use.
1- In order to avoid chafing and a nasty rash whilst wearing a sundress, I walk with a cowboy stagger and swagger.Walking with naked fat thigh to fat thigh friction in hot weather is downright horrible and it would be most unwise to put all one’s hope into a low denier pair of tights, you could well be paying for it for the next couple of weeks. Airflow should always remain at a premium.
.2- An efficient solution I am told by fellow fatties is a liberal shake betwixt and between with good old fashioned talc. I have tried this and found it to be efficient at first but upon the fourth or fifth application staining often occurs and a jet wash is required for removal at the end of the sweaty day. So I use only in emergencies or for short outings to the shops.
3- When alone and at home I tuck my clothing into my folds. I find this the most comfortable and immediate of all solutions. Inserting cotton into crevices is age old and nothing a boil wash can’t put right.
4- If all else fails I pull the curtains and strip off before assuming the position in front of the fridge. I have been known to caress the dairy section if temps reach upward of 28 degrees but usually/always the temptation proves too great and I end up belly first in the leftovers…….well a least they’re cold…..
The bizarre swelling of my feet and ankles that has become part and parcel of my perimenopausal state is downright weird! Most of the time I have to go up a shoe size…an actual shoe size. In defiance or stupidity I ram my bloated trotters into my previous well fitting shoes and after the day is over awake to bruised and battered feet that are now swollen twice as big as they were the day before….Put a heatwave into the mix and I end up with elephantiasis from the ankle down……nice. Flip flops it is for the huge footed, heavily sweating and very chafed woman.
This recipe for Lemon Mousse is just what’s required on a hot summer’s sweaty day. Light and pleasantly sharp it’s perfect for a BBQ or social gathering in the heat. It is absolutely delicious in a very refined way, just what the doctor ordered. I can at least feel dignified for a lemony moment.
