Ingredients

  • 2 x 375 grams ready rolled puff pastry
  • 100 grams chocolate spread nutella or similar
  • 1 small egg egg wash
  • icing sugar dusting

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 190 C/375 F Gas Mark 5
  • Either use the enclosed baking paper that comes with the ready rolled puff pastry or line a flat baking tray with a reusable liner or baking paper.
  • Spread the nutella or chocolate spread over the puff pastry sheet as shown in the picture.
  • Cut out a small star shape out of one corner and put to the side.
  • Unroll the second puff pastry sheet and place on top of the first one that is spread with chocolate.
  • Cut the pastry into the shape of a Christmas tree (triangle) with a wide base and trunk. Pull away the excess pastry.
  • Lightly score 2 lines down the middle of the triangle to form a tree trunk approx 3cm wide.
  • Cut branches into the sides of the triangle, approximately 2cm wide. Leave the top 5cm or so as this will be covered with your pastry star.
  • Taking each branch strip and turning it away from you twist each one a couple of times or so.
  • Brush all over with egg wash generously. Bake for about fifteen minutes until puffy and golden brown.
  • Dust with icing sugar for a festive finale.
