Ingredients

  • 4 medium carrots grated
  • 1 large apple grated
  • 250 grams rolled oats
  • 250 grams plain flour
  • 5 tbsp oil
  • 6 tbsp golden syrup
  • 2 tbsp black treacle

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 180 C/350 F/Gas Mark 4 grease or line a large flat baking tray.
  • Put all the ingredients together in a large mixing bowl.
  • Mix all the ingredients together. It takes a bit of mixing but I used my free standing mixer for ease. A hand held electric whisk will do the trick too or else just get mixing with a wooden spoon pony people.
  • I use a small ice cream scoop to make the horse treats. I just scoop and release them straight onto the lined baking tray. Alternatively roll into small balls with your hands a bit smaller than a golf ball.
  • This mixture makes about 16 horse treats.
  • Bake for about 25 minutes until just golden and a little bit crunchy.
  • Allow to cool on the tray.
  • Apply To Horse Face (break into smaller pieces)

Notes

Feed broken into small pieces. They are quite easy to break apart as they are soft inside.
Store treats covered in an air tight container for up to a four days.
Add an extra carrot instead of an apple and vice versa.
Use supermarket standard oats as they are just perfect, the flakes are an ideal mix of sizes to stick together.
These are the best Christmas presents for your favourite ponios. Wrap up in clear plastic wrap and tie with a ribbon for a fabulous festive feel.
Here's another great recipe for your much loved pets from my dear friend and fellow animal lover, but this time it's for Dog Biscuits.
